Trust me, it’s not every day that a novelist is asked to do a presentation and reading from her novel at the U.S. Library of Congress, but M.L. Malcolm had that honor recently, discussing and sharing Heart of Lies. When I heard she was going to be in town from Los Angeles, I immediately asked her if she’d swing by our office to be interviewed for our video series, and she graciously agreed. Our own Chelsea Richardson spent some quality time with her, and you can see the results in our video.

M.L. writes historical suspense novels, although she herself admits that she doesn’t really see herself writing in any given category. She is very interested in the family histories of her husband and herself, and in some of these stories -- involving international upbringings, war, and exotic travel -- she has found material to use in creating from her own imagination exciting early 20th Century adventure stories.

Astor Morgan is a busy guy. Along with photographing celebrities and doing other shoots such as CD covers and advertising work, Astor serves as chairman of the LA Chapter of the Advertising Photographers of America, curates shows such as “I Spy With My Plastic Eye,” and is organizing a photo workshop tour of Sicily after photographing the Festa di Sant’Agata there. Oh, and he took time to sit down with me to talk about his art and his rights.

I met Astor in Los Angeles at the magnificent 5th and Sunset Studios, where the Director of Operations Keith Vallot was kind enough to set us up with very nice space. See how well composed the video is, from lighting to background décor to sound? Well, that’s the advantage of having a professional visual artist on hand; Astor set the stage for me, all I had to do was press “record” on the camera.
