Ken Light is a social documentary photographer who has been working professionally for over 40 years.  His insightful photos have been featured in books, magazines, and exhibitions worldwide.  Ken is also a full time Professor at the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of California Berkeley and acts as curator for the Center for Photography there.

Ken was first inspired to join the world of photojournalism after his experience at a demonstration in Columbus, Ohio in 1970, the week leading up to the Kent State shootings.  As you will hear in the interview, it was there that Ken first realized that photographs have the ability to share stories, tell history, and ultimately connect the world.

Trust me, it’s not every day that a novelist is asked to do a presentation and reading from her novel at the U.S. Library of Congress, but M.L. Malcolm had that honor recently, discussing and sharing Heart of Lies. When I heard she was going to be in town from Los Angeles, I immediately asked her if she’d swing by our office to be interviewed for our video series, and she graciously agreed. Our own Chelsea Richardson spent some quality time with her, and you can see the results in our video.

M.L. writes historical suspense novels, although she herself admits that she doesn’t really see herself writing in any given category. She is very interested in the family histories of her husband and herself, and in some of these stories -- involving international upbringings, war, and exotic travel -- she has found material to use in creating from her own imagination exciting early 20th Century adventure stories.
