STATEMENT FROM COPYRIGHT ALLIANCE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR PATRICK ROSS RE: U.S. Supreme Court decision against hearing a challenge to Cartoon Network v. CSC Holdings, Inc.
June 29, 2009
“Like the lower court’s ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court decision is unfortunate and potentially harmful to creators and creative enterprises across the spectrum of copyright industries. We will monitor the ramifications of this decision and continue pushing for policy and legal outcomes that maintain creators’ incentives.”
BACKGROUND
The Copyright Alliance filed a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in November, 2008, urging the Court to review a Second Circuit ruling in the case of Cartoon Network v. CSC Holdings, Inc. The Supreme Court today decided against hearing the case.
