Last Updated: November 14, 2012

The Copyright Alliance recognizes the importance of protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy covers the information collected from you when you visit a website that links to this Privacy Policy or use other services offered by the Copyright Alliance. If you have questions about this policy, we encourage you to talk to us by using our feedback form.

Collection and Use of Information

Information you submit. When you visit our website, we may collect personal information from you such as name, title, physical address, e-mail address, and information about your professional interest in copyright issues. We may also collect any other information that you submit to us electronically or otherwise, including, but not limited to, comments that you post to any of our blogs or information that you provide us in connection with signing a petition. We may use any such information to provide and improve our websites, advocacy, and other services, to send you communications that we think may be of interest to you, and as disclosed to you, or as otherwise apparent to you, at the time your information is collected.

Browser and other information collected. We use technologies that are standard on the Internet to support and improve our website and e-mail programs. For instance, our web server automatically logs user agent information, such as IP address and information about your web browser. Other standard technologies that we use include “cookies” and “beacons,” which identify when a particular web page or e-mail has been opened. We use these standard technologies to understand how visitors use our website (for example, to learn which pages are viewed most frequently and when the peak-volume traffic periods occur) and to support and improve our website and other services.

You may have choices with respect to cookies. Users usually can decline cookies (and potentially exercise additional choices with respect to cookies) by modifying their browser preferences. However, please note that if you reject some or all cookies, your experience at this and on other sites throughout the Internet may be affected.

Third-party links. Websites and social media plug-ins that have links on our site may collect personal information directly from you. This Privacy Policy does not govern the privacy practices of such companies, which may have their own privacy policies that govern.

Disclosure of Information

We may share your personal information in the following ways: (1) with organizations or individuals that perform functions on our behalf, such as authorized agents and service providers; (2) to the extent required by a subpoena or similar legal process or to protect the legal rights of the Copyright Alliance or the safety and security of our websites and services; (3) if we were involved in a corporate reorganization; or (4) with your consent or as disclosed or otherwise made apparent to you at the time your information is collected. For example, if you were to provide us your name and contact information for purposes of signing an advocacy petition, we would disclose that information to the intended recipient(s) of the petition.

In addition to the specific data sharing practices described above, we may share with third parties information that has been aggregated or de-identified so that no individual person is reasonably identifiable.

E-mail Lists

The Copyright Alliance maintains an e-mail list to keep interested parties informed about relevant information and activities. If you have requested to join our e-mail list, then the Copyright Alliance may contact you by e-mail about information and activities that we believe will be of interest to you. Individuals who provide optional information may also receive materials in the U.S. mail and or be contacted by telephone by authorized Copyright Alliance representatives.

Children’s Privacy

We care about the safety and privacy of children online, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Security

We have adopted commercially reasonable security procedures to help protect your information, but please note that no transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

Modifications

We may occasionally update this privacy policy. We will post the current version of this policy on our website, and, if we make any material revisions to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you by posting notice on our website or by sending you an email.
